In Lieu of….

Some Siesta Key Sightings of famed front man of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, I couldn’t help myself…

Although I personally wasn’t around to see Led Zeppelin in their glory days, as a 10 year old girl I had the picture below of him on my wall and by the seventh grade I had a full blown crush (we’re talking mid to late 90s, well beyond their heyday). All my friends were into Boys II Men or TLC. Actually, I don’t remember what they were into because I was too busy loving “classic” rock. Heck, I remember being in a department store  with my mother  when I was six or seven. A school friend was with us (Jennifer Dominic. Yep, I have a crazy memory). It was Jennifer’s birthday the next day and mine the following week, so my mom offered to buy us each a cassette tape. My friend opted for the latest New Kid’s on the Block  and me, I wanted Houses of the Holy. Having a fellow Catholic school friend with me my mother wasn’t sure it was appropriate. With some pouting I walked out with a Beach Boys Greatest Hits. However, the following week I did get that Houses of the Holy Tape. So it began!

Lemon Song…enough said?

Inspiration: Roaring 20s

Recently I went to Barnes and Nobles to pick up a few rainy day reads and came across a shopping tote with the cover of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.” I knew I had to have it. The lure of the flapper era is unflappable. Check out the ready-t0-wear lines for Fall and next Spring and you’re still likely to find bold detailing, drop waists and flowing layers. The Siesta Key University Jazz shirt channels the boldness and immense energy of the Roaring 20s without

Happy Fourth of July

The fourth of July is just a few days away. Here are some images I’ve found that I think capture the American spirit: Beautiful, Proud, Hard-working, Free, Revolutionary and Wacky. It’s a little collage representing just a tip of the iceberg of what encompasses the American Spirit.  I particularly love the banjo that pays homage to Woody Guthrie’s famous guitar that said, “This machine kills fascists.” Instead, the banjo states, ” This Machine Surrounds Hate And Forces It To Surrender.” Isn’t that a wonderful concept? You will also find Johnny Cash with the flag and the host of America’s best fourth of July picnic, Willie Nelson. And, yes…that is miss Marilyn Monroe amongst the vintage illustrations of American beauties. I wish I could create all of these photos individually, but unfortunately could not trace all the sources. America doesn’t have to be looked at everyday for it’s failings, falls and flippant flaunts. Let’s just pretend things are good for one day and celebrate our young countries vibrant past and present.
